A two-way, separated bike lane in Lancaster city will get $974,544 in funding from red light camera violations in Philadelphia.
The state Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that the project is one of 51 across the commonwealth that will share in $27 million from the state’s Automated Red-Light Enforcement program.
The city plans to add a two-way, separated bike lane along Broad and Chesapeake streets in the city’s southeast quadrant. The bike lane will extend 1.1 miles from East King Street to South Queen Street. Work on the project is scheduled to begin later this year and wrap up in late 2027, according to the city’s website.
Two other Lancaster County municipalities will also receive funding from the program. Manheim Township will get $247,875 for a designated, high-visibility pedestrian crossing of Fruitville Pike at Candlewyck Road and Overlook Community Park.
Penn Township will get $221,200 to upgrade the intersection of Sun Hill Road/Oak Street and Lancaster Road, as well as the intersection of Doe Run Road and White Oak Road.
