The Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) announced this month that the Recycling Tipping Fee will increase from $50 to $60 per ton effective July 1, 2019. The rate change is necessary as the cost to LCSWMA for recycling charged by Penn Waste continues to rise, due to declining markets. Accordingly, the cost burden must be shared by those who use recycling services. LCSWMA is absorbing substantial costs associated with the recycling crisis, including costs to manage the material at the Transfer Station. LCSWMA’s 2019 Rules and Regulations authorize charging a fee up to $120 per ton for single stream materials. Further rate adjustments may be necessary, but we don’t anticipate adjusting more than once per quarter.
