Invasive species & promotion of native plants

Caring for our LAND, our WATER, and our COMMUNITY in Lancaster County. There are three major conservation concerns in our community. Learn about these concerns and what five steps you can take to preserve our land, water and community. Plants native to this area promote much better soil health which absorbs more water and erodes less. Native plants support wildlife and pollinators critical to the health of our food supply. Other plants, like the Butterfly Bush or the Tree of Heaven, host invasive insects, such as the Spotted Lantern Fly or the Emerald Ash Borer, which destroy trees and agricultural crops to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars lost. Think what we could do if we made conservation a conscious goal of our landscape!
